Proposal and Assessment of a Multiple Cycle-Continuous Cooling Transformation (MC-CCT) Diagram for Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing of Thin Walls

Continuous cooling transformation (CCT) diagrams of base metals are common in welding. They can be built using physical or numerical simulations, each with advantages and limitations. However, those not usual for weld metal, considering its variable composition due to the dilution into metal. Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) is a distinctive case which interest materials comparable raises attention estimating their mechanical properties. Notwithstanding, this concept still used WAAM. Therefore, aim work was address methodology raise MC-CCT (Multiple Cycle Cooling Transformation) WAAM by combining simulations. A high-strength low-alloy steel (HSLA) feedstock (a combination wire shielding gas) as study. To keep CCT representative possible, typical multiple thermal cycles additive manufacturing thin walls were determined replicated simulations (Gleeble dilatometry). The start end transformations differential linear variation approach cycle. Microstructure analyses hardness characterise product after cycles. same diagram raised commercial simulation package determine shape curves. range austenitic grain sizes scanned curve position matching experimental results. Combining data numerically simulated curves made final possible.
